Morrathil: Wrath of the Forest is a single-player action RPG for Android phones. It is drawn in pixel art, seen from above and played in landscape, with real-time combat.

The story

Morrathil was once the Keeper of his forest. Then the forest was felled and burned. Something grew around his grief and hid the Keeper underneath. That something is the Wrath of the Forest, and it is who he is now: an undead tree carrying blight, a rot that curses the living.

The Keeper is still in there. Each choice you make leans him toward one or the other.

Remnants of the forest survived, and they hold rings. Each ring is a shape Morrathil once wore. When he remembers one, a power comes back to him. He keeps that old shape even as he goes on changing.

Three forests

  • The Rootwake

His own forest, after the felling. Woodcutters and fire-setters work what is left, and the Palisade stands under Warden Maren Hale.

Raze the Palisade, or let its people go.

  • The Ashgrove

A forest that burned and was never allowed to grow back. Its remnant, the Ember Stag, took the fire into itself. The Ashen worship it.

Quench the Stag, or take its fire.

  • The Undergrove

It lies under the roots of every forest, where a stillness turns living things to stone. At the bottom stands the Still, the oldest tree. It remembered every shape it ever wore and refused to wear another. It fights with Morrathil's own past shapes.

Plant its seed, take it, or carry it.

The seed is the last choice. Your answers in every forest decide what the world becomes after.

What else is in it

  • The Keeper's Grove

Morrathil's heart tree grows in the Keeper's Grove, his home between forests. As the tree grows, its roots open ways to other forests.

The grove grows into a small base. Workers gather and haul, builders raise buildings, and a blacksmith makes gear. A home army defends it against raids. The army never follows him into the field.

  • Skill trees and familiars

Every skill point matters, and two builds can end up far apart. Familiars are beast companions that grow with him.

Gear is scarce, so each piece you find is worth thinking about.

  • Made for phones

You hold the phone in landscape. A floating joystick moves Morrathil. Tap the attack button to strike, or hold it to keep attacking. A separate button lets you interact with the world.
